ISVIR mid-term CME, June 13th and 14th, 2009 at

The Kovai Medical Center under the banner of the ISVIR conducted a CME on Pediatric vascular malformation Head to toe when a total of 8 teaching hours was spent on discussing in detail Intracranial, spinal and peripheral vascular malformations with special emphasis on endovascular management.
Dr. Philip John From hospital for sick children Toronto was the invited faculty. He has a vast experience in pediatric vascular malformations. This is an area where Indian Interventional radiologists do not have much experience and thus was an opportunity to develop their skills in this field.
Special emphasis was given to the current classification of vascular malformations. Several of the cases that were performed were demonstrated through pre-recoded videos with was a novel way to show live cases that were performed during the workshop. Day two was devoted for post graduates and young doctors with an interest in interventional radiology. There were 4 one hour teaching modules where each doctor spend one hour at each station .The stations will be manned by senior experienced interventional radiologists who trained them in the following topics
- Basics of angiography - mannequin demonstrating femoral access, guide wires and angiographic catheters.
- Fundamentals of embolization - showed different embolic agents, how to prepare them and when to use what.
- Fundamentals of angioplasty - showed all the hardware that is routinely used for angioplasty and stenting.
- RF ablation techniques and hard ware for tumors and varicose veins.
- Drainage procedures available hardware and techniques.
The national Faculty consisted of Dr. Sanjiv Sharma, Dr. Suyash Kulkarni, Dr. Gireesh, Dr. Santosh Joseph, Dr.Swatee Halbe, Dr. Ravi Kumar, Dr Murali, Dr. Rammurti and Dr. Shyamkumar NK
The Course Directors were Dr. Mathew Cherian and Dr. Pankaj Mehta
110 delegates from all over the country attended the programme. Another high light of the meeting was the gala dinner with a theme a party on the beach.
